Heritage and Gardens

The early 16th century half-timbered house once belonged to Victorian actress Ellen Terry and contains her fascinating collection, including the newly conserved and celebrated Beetle Wing Dress display. As you walk through Smallhythe you’ll learn about Ellen Terry’s extraordinary career and unconventional private life. You’ll be entertained by a diverse programme of productions in the theatre and garden, with performances throughout the year.

Take a stroll through the beautiful cottage grounds to enjoy an abundance of wildflowers shimmering bright pinks, purples and whites. Roses blossom making this a tranquil retreat for any visitor.
Throughout the seasons the diversity of the wildlife will delight your time here, from the butterflies in the summer to the birds in the winter.

Experience this relaxing and tranquil place while you step back to the 16th Century.
