Open Farm Garden Safari

22nd June 2025
Green Farm Spa

A chance to visit two nature-friendly farm gardens and their neighbouring land, in partnership with Kent Wildlife Trust. A unique opportunity to explore two different nature-friendly farm gardens, as well as see how they work with nature in their neighbouring farm land. Both sites are part of the Upper Beult Farmer Cluster.

Green Farm is home to Maryann and Martin. As well as being a working farm and retreat venue, it has a beautiful Community, Wildlife & Vegetable Garden. Gardened by Shelly, the garden uses no dig methods to create healthy soil and therefore healthy plants. This supports not only food for people but for wildlife too. Features include dead hedges, a flower garden and ponds, which help keep pests and diseases at a manageable level without the use of chemicals or pesticides.

The team will share methods, hints and tips in talks and will be available to explain what they have learned over the years. So, come and pick their brains! The neighbouring Moat Farm extends to 260 acres. The owners, Jan and Mike manage the farm with conservation in mind and their approach to the garden is no different – create enough habitat with food source, and everything else happens of its own accord. Features include native hedging, a traditional orchard, no-mow areas, a large pond and wooded bank, as well as native flowers, flower beds, roses and lots for pollinators. These two beautiful gardens have so much to share.

A schedule of talks and activities will run throughout the day, including the opportunity to enjoy a guided walk between the two gardens and learn about their regenerative farming work and see the meadows.

Garden tours at both sites: 11.30am, 1pm and 3pm. Led by Shelly at Green Farm and Jan at Moat Farm. 30 mins. Topics include creating a dead hedge, how to no-dig, managing pests naturally, and composting tips. Not to be missed! Walk between the gardens: 12pm and 2pm, from both sites. A short walk (approx 20-30 mins) between the gardens. Learn about their leaky dams and wildflower meadows, and hopefully spot some orchids, as well as hearing more about their nature-friendly farming and gardening experiences. Led by Senior Farmer Cluster Officer Ellen Wilson and Martin from Green Farm. Although the route will have signage, we recommend that you join a walk with us. Please note the walk is unfortunately not accessible to those with limited mobility. However, you can drive between the sites. Please speak to us on the day (a golf buggy option may be available!)

We will also have our Wild About Gardens Advisors and other wildlife organisations on-hand to give advice, tips, ideas and inspiration. The garden sites and addresses: Please note parking is available at both sites and activities will run at both sites. You are welcome to explore both sites and start at either. Addresses below: Green Farm Kent, Church Lane, Shadoxhurst TN26 1LT. Moat Farm, Church Lane, Shadoxhurst, TN26 1LY. Tea, coffee, cake and toilet facilities will be available at both gardens.
